South France places to visit, attractions and highlights

Visit southern France

Our mission is to explore as many places in the south of France as possible and bring you all the highlights, the nitty-gritty details, and the reality. The attractions…and perhaps the places to avoid.

The part of France that we cover includes four French administrative regions - from west to east these are Aquitaine, Midi-Pyrenees, Languedoc-Roussillon and Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur.

pujolsThese region names are not especially well known but you have heard of (and perhaps visited) the places they include, for they contain many well known destinations - from the Dordogne to the Luberon, from Gascony to the high Pyrenees, and from the French Riviera to the Atlantic beaches.

These regions, between the Atlantic coast and Biarritz to the west and the French Riviera to the east, in turn include a remarkable number of places worth visiting, with many highlights including for example:

- numerous villages classified among the most beautiful villages of France,

- significant and important Roman ruins,

- renowned pilgrimage towns such as Rocamadour,

- the castles of the Dordogne department,

- the perched villages of Provence

- the world famous coastal resorts such as St Tropez and Nice

- an enormous diversity of landscapes from the Bordeaux vineyards to the fields of sunflowers in Gascony, to the craggy coastline around Marseille and the high mountains of the Alps

Each entry has more than one tag or category - for example a village in the Dordogne will be listed under ‘villages’ and ‘Dordogne’ and perhaps also ‘castles’ or ‘river’. Go ahead, start exploring!
